Les 5 Ferrari Les Plus Chères Jamais Vendues

Les 5 Ferrari Les Plus Chères Jamais Vendues

When it comes time to talk about Ferrari, it's as much about heritage as it is about style and performance. Some collectors will do just about anything to appropriate a piece of this well-known heritage.

Whether it's because you simply want a classic Ferrari, or because you're more interested in a particular part of Enzo Ferrari's heritage, you'll make a worthwhile investment. Sure enough, here are some examples of the most expensive Ferraris ever sold to show just how much Ferrari enthusiasts value their own Ferrari holy grail.

Here are the five most expensive Ferraris ever sold:

1. Ferrari 335 Sport Scaglietti ($35.7 million)

The fifth most expensive Ferrari ever sold is a unique model among this top five. This is the only model that is not a 250 GTO. In 2016, the Ferrari 335 Sport Scaglietti was named the most expensive automobile ever sold at auction and is one of only four models produced. The limited nature of the Ferrari 335 is not the only reason that may have increased demand, it is also the fact that this Ferrari Scaglietti was driven by Peter Collins, Maurice Trintignant and Wolfgang von Trips and then retired from tracks by a single owner for 40 years which have made it one of the rarest items.

It is therefore the level of care that has been reserved for it, its racing history and the sole owner that have increased the demand for this model to conclude the sale of almost 36 million dollars.

2. 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO ($39.6 million and $48.4 million)

Positions four and three of the top five are both occupied by the same Ferrari model, the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. Enzo Ferrari himself. As you can imagine, such a limited production Ferrari in the 1960s attracts a lot of attention, receiving a host of modern accolades such as:

  • Motor Trend Classic named it the best Ferrari ever
  • Popular Mechanics named it the "hottest" automobile of all time.
  • Sports Car International nominated it in the Top Sports Cars of All Time category.

Believe it or not, Ferrari 250 GTO models regularly sold for under $10,000 in the 1960s and 1970s until the classic car boom of the 1980s and 1990s. becomes a definitive Ferrari in the eyes of collectors and its fans. These models were Steel Blue and Ferrari Red (sold for $39.6 million and $48.4 million respectively).

3. 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO ($52 million and $70 million)

Since the four most expensive Ferraris in the world happen to be the same model, the slightest difference between them can cause their value to differ wildly. Nearly $20 million separates two 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO models, and much of that is down to the condition they end up in.

  • The red 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO which sold for $52 million was raced by Joe Schlesser in 1960. Before being sold in 2013, it was owned by Paul Pappalardo who reportedly restored and raced it in various series heritage races.
  • In 2018, another silver-blue Ferrari 250 GTO became the most expensive car ever sold at $70.2 million. It has never been damaged and therefore it has never been necessary to restore it. The immaculate condition of this 1963 GTO combined with its 1964 Tour de France winning history has increased its value significantly over the 1963 GTO sold in 2013.

In short, keeping your Ferrari in pristine condition is one way to increase its value, but if you manage to win the Tour de France while driving it, that's even better.
